I'm alive! And updating just on time, which is late.
Work happens, and I go around taking photos and there is nothing else I want to do. I shot both Rogue and Esquire Philippines' male editorials for August, the lookbook for PROUDRACE (that's a link, because I haven't gotten to coloring my link texts), covered the Philippine Fashion Ball for Preview, and new things keep happening, keeping me on my toes but still on the ground. The gravity of nervousness is great.
Judd and Nissy are still spinning at Future in Cubao X on Thursdays. Drop by. Sasha, Gian, Anna who's permanently back from Qatar, Mikee Joma, Eunice, and Gelo did.

It was dark and Nissy improvised with one thing most of us had in common: lighters. Mikee!

Sasha!

Eunice!

Joma and Gelo!

Anna! Welcome back.

Gian!

Austin, Getter of Shit Done of Future, spinning before Judd and Nis.

It does get a little awkward when we think about dancing in basically a glass box facing the more sedate drinkers outside. But we don't think.

More lighters! You can't jump the shark when you are the shark! Unless. No. Hi Anna.

Helga!

Smoke break on the quieter side of X.

Eunice and her hybrid nod to the USA and Germany on her shirt. I made that up.

Mikee! He went blonde! Then he went brown! But since I always post late, he's bald now. Things change.

But for one moment in time, in the post-ironic wolf shirt era, he looked like this. Hi Mikee.

Ziggy dropped by, because a part of BTribe was drinking sedately, possibly feet away from us.

Jiro, Kris, MarkLim, and Ziggy! Hello my friends! Behind you, is us.

The bar at Future is always stocked. Funnily, since I either drink til I pass out or not at all, all I get is Coke Zero. Carmen mans the counter. She is the chillest, most zen, most tolerant cashier I know.

One wall of Future changes every week or month or so, with a new mural, or installation, or art exhibit up on it. This is not the wall, it's the left edge, Carmen's territory.

Santi! Whenever I see him, his mohawk changes. We obviously don't see each other often.

Across from Future, Bellini's! Delicious, expensive, and in need of stability, which Anna, Nis, and Sasha provide.

For one moment, I got obsessed with the new floodlights ringing Cubao X. Blinding light is so charming and crime-deterring.

Anna and Gian left after- bye!- but the rest of us went back til the lights came on.

Judd and Nissy, aka DJs Sweetheart and IncognitoGlam, with Head Getter of Shit Done Austin.

Sasha's rings, and no parking say goodnight.

Before I knew it, it was August 31st, one day til the -ber months, which meant that the Christmas season was hours away. (We start it along with the -ber months. Psychologically things just suddenly get colder and traffic goes wild. I don't know. It was in the memo for being Filipino.)
Just on schedule, meaning randomly, the wall of Future changed. Hi Nissy's hand.

Hello Austin dressed in red with wooden Japanese slippers which I forgot to photograph because you know me and my stable tableau style. Actually, I just forgot. But it seems to be my thing. You don't see shoes on this blog. BLOG? OUTFITS? I heard it's the hip thing.

Nobody puts Nissy in the corner.

Because of my notoriously goldfishy memory, I forget if I had told you that Nissy now works at Lomography.com (click that), writes about analog photography, shoots with it, goes to work from 2pm-10pm to synchronize with the Vienna office, and burns through film like crazy. She also has five billion cats, and parts of the life I want.
Follow her film tumblr here: hedonissy.tumblr.com (click that) and her collection-of-life-pegs tumblr here: incognitoglam.tumblr.com (click that too) (sorry)
Also, say hello to her little friend.

Judd, Sasha, and Nissy! There was pizza.

Hello Tokwa and Secreto!

Nante and Gabby!

So I heard it was cool to blow bubble gum bubbles.

The story is that E A T was on the bar. But we found an M. And I found glass tiles. And Taj, one of the resident Austin's Bitches, found us.

Eunice and her practiced lethargy. Hi girl.

Secreto, my, and Nante's SO VINTAGE THAT EVERYONE HAS IT NOW #schoolofzooeydeschanel Casio watches. Did I even get the grammar right.

Then the night ended. Lights on. Shoes on my blog. See, anyone can change. Hi Nis.

I feel like the DJs are my bodyguards.

The day later it was September 1, and right on schedule, I heard Christmas songs everywhere. Filipinos are literally always late, except for Christmas. I went to Anna C's place for dinner, with the rest of... us. I heard we were called hipstars. This is not vintage or quirky enough.

ANNA'S BED ON THE FLOOR. QUIRKY. I LIKE THAT! Hi David and Gabby!

Hi Thysz, Anna, Shaira, Raymond, and Toff! Also present but evasive, Sam and Gerard. Saying grace.

That's some nice-looking grace. Thank you Anna!

Quirking up in this bitch aka this bed aka hi Anna and Raymond!

Hi Karen! Hi Will! Welcome to our lives. As you notice, in our culture we wear cropped tops.

And there will be lifting.

And watching muted Marc Jacobs documentaries with French subtitles and making up dialogue.

And some form of lethargy. LETHARGY OR NOTHING.

And then it was the next day. Sasha, Julianna and I went to the legendary Anonas Station ukay, and we fought for the discarded clothes of upper-income societies like South Korea and Japan. The plastic bags contain treasure. So does Julianna's new fur hat thing.

We went around the 4 floors of ukay shops and finished around 5, and met Thysz, Bobet, Mike, Angelo, and Elyoo outside just getting ready for their own ukay day.

But first, Elyoo and kwek-kwek.

This is kwek-kwek. Deep-fried quail and chicken eggs with chili vinegar. No judgement.

Thysz found a Gant shirt! And then went on to find Margiela. I found some Uniqlo, Andy Warhol, and Japanese and Chinese product shirts. Sasha and Julianna found sheer tops, maxidresses and other womanly things. Anonas. You really should.

And then it was time to leave. But not without one quirky shot of Elyoo and the Anonas Station scene. Bye!

Next post should come just in time. Whenever that is. Learn it. Live it. Love it. |
